The last hour of your day doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to feel like a different part of the day. A little less light. A little less noise. A little more space between you and everything asking for your attention.
Give the evening an edge
Try choosing one small moment that marks the end of work and the beginning of rest. Close the laptop. Put your phone somewhere you won't reach for it automatically. Make the room feel softer. The point isn't a strict schedule; it's a recognizable change of pace.
Let the room do some of the work
Lower the lights if you can. Draw the curtains. Turn down the background noise, or give yourself a quieter corner. A sleep mask or ear plugs can make that transition feel more intentional when your surroundings won't cooperate.
Keep one thing for yourself
A few pages of a book. A warm shower. A familiar blanket pulled over your shoulders. Choose something uncomplicated enough that you actually want to return to it tomorrow. A good ritual is one you don't have to force.
Some nights will be messy. That's life. The hour before sleep is not another task to get right; it's permission to step away from the day, one layer at a time.
